Mahaica River Tour

4:30 AM – Pick Up from Georgetown

• Departure: The tour begins with a comfortable pick-up from your accommodation in Georgetown at 4:30 AM. Our friendly driver will meet you at the agreed location, and you’ll embark on a scenic, one-hour drive to Mahaica. Relax and enjoy the journey through the picturesque countryside of Guyana.

6:00 AM – Arrival in Mahaica & Welcome Refreshments

• Arrival: You’ll arrive in Mahaica, where a warm welcome awaits you. Upon arrival at the dock, you’ll be served a refreshing cup of tea or coffee, providing you with a perfect start to your adventure on the river.

6:30 AM – Boat Ride on the Mahaica River (2 Hours)

• The Adventure Begins: After a short briefing, you’ll board your boat and set off for a two-hour guided tour along the Mahaica River. The boat ride offers a peaceful escape into the heart of nature, as you glide through the calm waters.

  • Wildlife Viewing: As you explore the river, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the national bird of Guyana, the Hoatzin (also known as the Canje Pheasant), along with various species of monkeys, birds, otters, and other fascinating wildlife native to the region. The expert guide will provide insights into the history and ecology of the area.
  • Photography: The tour provides plenty of opportunities for photos as you capture the natural beauty and wildlife of the Mahaica River.

8:30 AM – Return to the Dock & Breakfast

• Dock Arrival: After the boat ride, you will return to the dock where a delicious breakfast awaits. Enjoy a traditional local breakfast served on-site, featuring:

  • Roti
  • Saltfish and Bakes
  • Local Juice or Fresh Coconut Water

9:30 AM – Optional Swim in the River

• Cooling Off: After breakfast, if you feel like taking a refreshing dip, you can enjoy a quick swim in the river. Immerse yourself in the cool waters and experience the serenity of this unique natural environment.

10:00 AM – Departure & Return to Georgetown

• Heading Back: Once you’ve enjoyed your breakfast and swim, you’ll board the transport for the return journey to Georgetown. Relax as you travel back through the lush landscapes of Guyana.

11:00 AM – Arrival Back in Georgetown

• Return: You will be dropped off at your accommodation or a central location in Georgetown, concluding your memorable Mahaica River Tour.
